Germany’s Siemens Energy has signed a multi-phase agreement with Afghanistan to develop its power system, which will include significant renewable energy capacity.

As part of the ‘Afghanistan Energy Hub’ agreement, Siemens Energy will assist with the development of a reliable electricity supply through a three-phased plan.

The agreement builds on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that Siemens signed with the Afghanistan government in January 2019 to support development of the country’s energy sector.

Only 28 per cent of Afghanistan’s 37 million population have access to reliable electricity, with much power that is available supplied from neighbouring countries.

In addition to developing vital electricity infrastructure, Siemens Energy will work with the government to develop training and vocational programmes for local people.
