Saudi Aramco holds meetings with bidders for Marjan power and water project

Saudi Aramco is still holding clarification meetings with bidders for the planned Marjan cogeneration independent steam and power plant (ISPP) and Tanajib desalination plant.

The client received bids from four bidding groups on 30 September for the Marjan and Tanajib projects, which will be codeveloped by the appointed developer.

The groups which submitted bids for the project are:

  • Acwa Power (local)/ GIC (Kuwait)

  • Engie

  • Kepco (South Korea)/ Al-Jumaih (local)

  • Marubeni (Japan)/ Taqa (UAE)

  • The Marjan ISPP is planned to have a power capacity of 700MW-900MW, with a steam capacity of 1,152-3,054 kilo pounds an hour. The Tanajib desalination project, which was added to the project’s scope in the prequalification stage, will have a desalination component of 24,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d). Bidders were asked to submit proposals which would enable the plant to be expandable to 34,000 cm/d by 2030.

Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) is advising Saudi Aramco on the project, with Germany’s Fichtner Consulting Engineers providing technical consultancy services.
