Nakheel awards contract to Total to install solar panels on mall rooftops

Dubai property developer Nakheel has awarded a contract to Total affiliate Total Solar Distributed Generation (DG) Middle East to install 12,000 solar panels on the Ibn Battuta mall and Dragon Mart mall rooftops in Dubai

Dubai property developer Nakheel has awarded a contract to Total affiliate Total Solar Distributed Generation (DG) Middle East to install 12,000 solar panels on the Ibn Battuta and Dragon Mart mall rooftops in Dubai.

The PV panels will be able to generate about 9GWh of clean energy, which will reduce C02 yearly by about 3,500 tonnes. The 12,000 panels will cover a total area of about 35,000 square metres.

“Given a growing global climate focus, it’s critical that governments work with the public and private sector on implementing clean energy solutions within urban planning. As part of our ongoing alignment with the leadership of Dubai, Nakheel Malls are committed to supporting efforts of the city’s clean energy strategy 2050. We are doing this through our partnership with Total by installing PV Solar panels at Dragon Mart and Ibn Battuta Mall with the aim to support a circular economy,” Omar Khoory, chief hospitality and assets officer, Nakheel, was quoted in a press release.
