Hitachi ABB Power Grids has been awarded a contract for work on the 800MW Al-Kharsaah photovoltaic (PV) solar plant in Qatar.
Hitachi ABB Power Grids has been awarded a contract from PowerChina Guizhou Engineering, which is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor on the project, to provide a 220kV grid connection solution for the PV solar project.
The solution will include detailed engineering and equipment. The Al-Kharsaah PV project is due for partial operation in the first quarter of 2021.
Energy & Utilities reported in January 2020 that a consortium led by France’s Total and Japan’s Marubeni has been awarded the contract to develop the 800MW PV project, which is being developed under the independent power producer (IPP) model.
The PV project will be developed in the Al-Kharsaah area of Qatar, about 80km west of Doha.
The project reached financial close in July 2020, with Japan’s Mizuho Bank and export credit agency Japan Bank for International Cooperation (Jbic) agreeing to provide senior loans for the solar project, which will require a total investment of $467m
