Five bidders submitted proposals for the planned 3MW photovoltaic (PV) solar project at Bahrain’s Formula 1 track in Manama.
The Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) received bids on 17 June.
The bidders for the project are:
- Aradous Energy Generation Company
- Downtown Construction Company
- Esmaely Lenzohm Electrical Company
- International IREC Energy
- Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo
Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) partnered with SEA to issue the tender for the 3MW project in May.
The project was tendered under a build, own, operate and maintain (BOOM) structure. The 3MW solar capacity will be installed as car park shades at the F1 circuit. The bidders have been asked to provide O&M services for a period of 20 years.
The project forms parts of Bahrain’s target for 5 per cent of its energy to be produced by clean energy sources by 2025 and 10 per cent by 2035.
Energy & Utilities recently reported that the UAE’s Majid Al Futtaim and Yellow Door Energy had signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to develop a 6.2MW solar installation for a large commercial retail development in Bahrain.
The 6.2MW of PV capacity will be installed at the Bahrain Mall development. The solar plant will provide 50 percent of the Bahrain Mall’s power needs and is the equivalent of reducing carbon emissions by 6,200 tonnes per year.
