Egypt's Green Hydrogen Market Receiving Global Attention

Egypt partners with global firms to develop its green hydrogen market, aiming to become a key player in Africa's renewable energy sector.
 

Egypt is making huge strides towards achieving its renewable energy goals. One sector where the Egyptian government is putting extra effort is in green hydrogen. Recently, Egypt opened its doors to welcome John Cockerill International into its market, a key player in the green hydrogen business. It went ahead and partnered with Scatec along with other firms to push the development of green hydrogen projects in Egypt.

Major Partnership in Green Hydrogen

The leading companies that include John Cockerill International, Scatec ASA, SLB, Technip, and Rely announced the partnership during their meeting with Karim Badawi, Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. The collaboration will focus on the green ammonia production project in the Damietta Governorate. In this context, green hydrogen will be a key element. It will help place Egypt in the circle of leading countries in the Africa's renewable energy market.

Badawi sounded confident that Egypt was going to turn out to be a reliable supplier of green hydrogen, if not to Europe, then at least to the whole world. Egypt has drawn up a roadmap with clarity for the implementation of green hydrogen projects. Its cooperation with international companies marks the success of these efforts.

Egypt's Green Hydrogen Ambitions

Egypt's commitment to green hydrogen is part of a wider thrust into renewable energy. The government also wants to push this progress through partnerships with global leaders in the energy sector. Besides the green ammonia project, the localization of technology required for green hydrogen production is something MoPMR is dealing with for attracting more and more investments that enhance Egypt's renewable energy.

Badawi underscored that Egypt should localise all these technologies. This way Egypt can become a strategic player in the global renewable energy market. With this, the country is well-positioned to act as a hub for green hydrogen production. It will be able to supply both the national and international markets.

European Companies See Egypt as a Strategic Partner

During the conference, representatives from the participating companies sounded enthusiastic about Egypt's role in the green hydrogen market. They said Egypt has huge potential for green hydrogen and renewable energy projects. The European Union also sees Egypt as a strategic partner in developing green energy solutions.

John Cockerill Company and other partners presented their role in this alliance. It underlined its involvement in similar green hydrogen projects worldwide. By doing so, the company has adopted a position with thorough expertise. So leveraging this expertise can help accelerate growth in Egypt's green hydrogen market.
