China’s Sepco 3 awarded contract to build PP13 power plant in Saudi Arabia

China’s Sepco 3 has been awarded a contract by state utility Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to build power plant 13 (PP13) in Saudi Arabia.

The 1,800MW plant will be constructed in Durma, about 140 kilometres west of Riyadh, next to the existing PP12 plant.

Sepco 3 was awarded a contract in 2015 to build the 1,755MW PP14 power plant. In November 2013, US-based GE was awarded a $700m contract from SEC to supply turbines and generators for the two power plants.

GE will provide 12 combined-cycle gas turbines, four steam turbines and 16 generators for the PP13 and PP14 facilities.

In May 2013, Australia’s WorleyParsons was awarded the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract for the PP13 and PP14 projects.
