Austrian company to launch green hydrogen plant in Ras Al-Khaimah

Austrian-based biotechnology company SAN Group will invest AED 12 million to build a green hydrogen and farming subsidiary in Ras Al Khaimah’s Economic Zone (RAKEZ)

The company will construct a fully integrated sustainable hydrogen production unit, plant, and fish farming on a land plot of 8,470 sq m in RAKEZ Al Hamra Industrial Zone, according to a statement by RAKEZ.

Expected to be fully operational by the end of this year, the facility will house a research centre, a laboratory, desalination plant, green house and will generate energy through solar power systems that will act as a source of electricity for all the buildings on the premises, including enough to produce green hydrogen.

Erich Erber, Founder and President of SAN Group said that their new location in Ras Al-Khaimah supports the long-term strategic goals of the company.

"When deciding where to invest, we gave paramount consideration to cost-effectiveness, the right environment, and ease of doing business, and with RAKEZ we found all the support we needed," he added.

Ramy Jallad, Group CEO of RAKEZ, said that Ras Al Khaimah aims to be at the forefront of sustainability in the region by creating a nurturing environment for players in the sustainable sector.
