Alfanar wins $175m substation contract in Saudi Arabia

The local Alfanar Construction has been awarded a $175m contract to build a 380kV substation at Baha and expand existing 380kV substations at Umluj, Al-Wajh and Yanbu

The local Alfanar Construction has been awarded a $175m contract to build a 380kV substation at Baha and expand existing 380kV substations at Umluj, Al-Wajh and Yanbu.

The projects will be developed on a lump-sum turnkey basis. Scope of works will include design, engineering, materials procurement, factory inspection and testing, transport and delivery to site, installation, construction works, testing and commissioning and other associated works.

Saudi Arabia is investing heavily in upgrading and expanding its transmission and distribution (T&D) infrastructure as it seeks to install significant clean energy capacity over the next decade.

In August 2021, L&T Construction, the construction arm of India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T), was awarded a contract to provide and install a 380kV electrical substation in the Tabuk city area of Northern part of the kingdom.
