Yellow Door to provide solar energy for Jordan industrial development

UAE-based Yellow Door Energy has signed an agreement with Jordan’s Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (Aseza) to install and operate a 6.1MW photovoltaic (PV) solar plant.

Yellow Door will develop the plant under a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) model, with the developer having signed a wheeling agreement to use Jordan’s national grid for supplying the solar power to where it is required. The plant is scheduled to be operational by the summer of 2020 and is expected to generate more than 13GW-hours of electricity in the first year of operation.

The solar development will meet 40 per cent of Aseza’s energy requirements and will reduce carbon emissions by 9,500 tonnes annually. The project will comprise of more than 15,000 PV modules.

The Aseza scheme will be the latest of a number of projects that Yellow Door has developed in Jordan.

In May this year, Yellow Door signed an agreement with the UAE’s Majid al-Futtaim to install 17MW of solar panels at Carrefour supermarkets in four areas of the kingdom.

The 17MW solar project will supply electricity for Carrefour stores in Amman, Zarqa, Madaba and Al-Salt, with 29GW-hours of electricity planned to be produced in the first year of operation.

In February 2017, Yellow Door Energy signed an agreement to build and operate a 4.7MW PV plant at a hospital in Jordan’s capital city Amman.
