The National Grid of Uzbekistan has launched the request for qualification (RFQ) for three major photovoltaic (PV) solar independent power projects (IPPs) in Uzbekistan.

The projects will developed under a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) model. The tender is being overseen by the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade and the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Development Agency under the Ministry of Finance.

The project is being developed in consultation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

The scheme will involve the development of PV capacity at three sites, located in Namangan, Bukhara and Khorezm, with a total capacity of up to 500MW.

Unlike previous solar projects developed in Uzbekistan in partnership with the IFC, one of the three projects, the Bukhara project, will also include a battery storage component.

Developers have until 29 November to submit RFQ for the PV solar project.

The winning developers will design, finance, operate and maintain the PV solar plants before transferring them to the government at the end of the power purchase agreement (PPA).
