Twelve groups prequalified for Uzbekistan wind project

Uzbekistan has prequalified twelve groups to participate in the tender for a planned 100MW wind project in the Qorao’zak district

Uzbekistan has prequalified twelve groups to participate in the tender for a planned 100MW wind project in the Qorao’zak district.

The prequalification list was approved by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy (MOE), Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade (MIFT), National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan (NEGU) and the Publlic-Private Partnership Development Agency (PPPDA).

The twelve prequalified groups are:

  • Acwa Power
  • China Hua Neng Group
  • China Power International
  • China Three Gorges South Asia Investment
  • AC Renewables International (Singapore)/ UPC Renewables (China)
  • Yildizlar Construction & Trade (Turkey)/ Mingyang Smart Energy Group (China)/ Energo Pro (Czech Republic)/ Ipak Yo’li Financial Advisory (local)
  • Enel Green Power (Italy)
  • Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco)
  • Masdar (UAE)
  • Total Eren (France)
  • Toyota Tsusho Corporation (Japan)
  • Voltalia (France)

The project is part of Uzbekistan’s plan to develop 5GW of renewable energy by 2030.

In June 2020, UAE-based Masdar signed the power purchase agreement (PPA) and investment agreement for a planned 500MW wind energy project in Uzbekistan.

The wind project will be developed in the Zarafshon area of the Navoi region, with full commercial operations planned to begin in 2024.

The project marks the second utility-scale renewable energy project that Masdar will develop in Uzbeksitan, following its success last year in a competitive tender for a planned 100MW photovoltaic (PV) solar project in the Navoi region.

Masdar was announced as the winning bidder with a tariff of $cents 2.679 per kilowatt hour (kWh), and signed the PPA for the solar project in November 2019. The solar project is Uzbekistan’s first independent power producer (IPP) project.

Energy & Utilities recently reported that Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power had signed strategic agreements worth more than $2bn with Uzbekistan’s MOE, which will include the development of a $1.1bn wind project.

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy (MOE) is also pushing ahead with the procurement process for the 200MW Sherabad PV IPP. The ministry recently extended the bid submission date to 16 April 2021.
