Spain’s GranSolar has secured land to install 13 large-scale batteries in Australia, which will have a combined capacity to store up to 300MW.
The batteries are each expected to have capacities of 20MW or 40MW. According to Renew Economy, the batteries are mainly due to be located in southern Australia and Victoria with a smaller proportion in New South Wales.
Demand for batteries in southern Australia is being driven by significant additions of solar and wind power in recent years.
Gransolar has previously announced it would install a 5-7.5MW battery project in Longwarry in Victoria, in collaboration with Victoria’s transmission operator Ausnet.
Gransolar is also planning to develop two new solar farms, including a 100MW solar project in New South Wales, according to Renew Economy.
