Siemens Gamesa secures wind turbine order for project in Sweden

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has secured an order from Danish firm Eurowind Energy to supply wind turbines for a 46MW wind project near Karlstad in Sweden.

Siemens Gamesa will supply eight 170-metre wind turbines for the Knostad onshore project. The deal includes a 25-year service agreement. Each turbine will be able to produce up to 6.2MW of electricity.

The Knostad project is the manufacturer's second deal in Sweden in four months, with the company having received an order in December to provide turbines for the 231MW Skaftasen wind project.

Siemens Gamesa is due to install the turbines in the second half of 2021.

Germany's Siemens and Spain's Gamesa first announced plans to merge their wind businesses in July 2016, with Siemens holding a 59 per cent stake and former Gamesa shareholders holding 41 per cent of the new company.

In February this year, Siemens announced it was going to buy Iberdola's 8.1 per cent stake in the company for Euro1.1bn. The German firm is preparing to merge the business with its newly established energy business before a planned flotation.
