Portugal receives new record PV solar tariff
Portugal’s government has revealed that a world record low tariff proposal of $0.0132/kWh was submitted under the country's second photovoltaic (PV) solar auction, beating the $0.0135/kWh then-record tariff submitted in Abu Dhabi earlier this year
Portugal’s government has revealed that the Directorate General for Energy & Geology received a world record low tariff proposal of $0.0132/kWh under a photovoltaic (PV) solar auction, beating the $0.0135/kWh then-record tariff submitted in Abu Dhabi earlier this year.
The $0.0131/kWh tariff was submitted in Portugal’s second PV solar auction, under which 670MW of PV solar capacity, distributed between 12 projects, is to be allocated to a handful of developers.
While the government has not released the full list of prices and bidders, it revealed in a press statement that 483MW of the 670MW capacity to be allocated would be for PV projects with energy storage.
Portugal’s first PV auction in 2019 also set a then world record tariff, with $0.016/kWh being submitted as more than 1GW of solar capacity was allocated.
Energy & Utilities reported in April that a consortium led by France’s EDF and China’s Jinko Power had submitted the lowest tariff for the planned 2GW PV Al-Dhafra independent power producer (IPP) project in Abu Dhabi following a competitive bidding process. The levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) tariff of $0.0135/kWh set a new world record for utility-scale PV solar production.
