Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has selected a consortium of Japan’s Mitsubishi and China’s Sepco 3 as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the fourth additional block for its Power Station 5.
The fourth additional block will increase the capacity of Power Station 5 by 680.9MW, which will bring the total capacity of the plant to 2,480MW.
The contract award is still subject to financial close, however, Alba noted in a statement.
Alba awarded a contract to a consortium of US-based GE and Turkish contractor Gama in 2016 to build the existing 1,800MW Power Plant 5. Power Plant 5 was a key component of the Line 6 expansion project for Alba’s aluminium smelter, the largest in the world outside of China.
