MEE 2021: Nigeria's rural electrification programme open for international investors
Nigeria is keen to attract outside investment to assist with its vast rural electrification programme, says Anita Otubu, Head of the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria (REAN)
Nigeria is keen to attract outside investment to assist with its vast rural electrification programme, says Anita Otubu, Head of the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN).
Speaking during a panel discussion at Middle East Energy 2021 conference, Otubu said that with 80 million Nigerians without access to a regular supply of electricity the scope for small-scale renewables projects in remote areas of the country was enormous.
“We are happy to meet developers and investors who would be happy to take some of the risk and visit those remote communities that need help,” Ms Otubu said.
REAN has plans to develop renewable energy projects that will account for 40 percent of Nigeria’s total energy mix by 2030.
Middle East Energy Online 2021 is being held virtually over a four-week period from 17 May to 9 June.
