MEE 2021: Investment in grids vital for changing utilities sector
The complexity of future energy trends means grids need to be overhauled, Middle East Energy 2021 conference was told
Large-scale investment is required on electricity grids to bring them up to the standards required for future power needs according to Juan Marco, Principal of the Brussels-based European Distribution System Operators (E.DSO).
Speaking at the Middle East Energy 2021 conference, Marco said that as most energy grids move towards digitalisation, investment is required to ensure that the full benefit of the change can be utilised.
“We [as distribution system operators] have a responsibility to ensure that all of our customers have a safe and reliable system in place," Marco said.
The executive added that strategies that should be pursued to engage customers in energy transition included innovative market models, providing efficient price signals or better information through the meters.
