Masdar signs MoU for Indonesia solar projects

UAE-based Masdar has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pertamina Power Indonesia (PPI) to explore the development of floating and land photovoltaic (PV) solar power plants and associated clean energy solutions in the Asian country

UAE-based Masdar has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pertamina Power Indonesia (PPI) to explore the development of floating and land photovoltaic (PV) solar power plants and associated clean energy solutions in the Asian country.

The MoU was signed by Mohamed Jameel al-Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, and Nicke Widyawati, president director and CEO of Pertamina, on 8 November at Dubai Expo.

The agreement is part of Masdar’s strategy to grow its clean energy portfolio outside of the Middle East.

In March 2021, Masdar signed an agreement with Malaysian state-owned firm Petronas to explore new renewable energy opportunities across Asia in countries such as Vietnam and Taiwan in addition to Malaysia.

In October, Masdar signed a strategic agreement to explore renewable energy opportunities in Turkmenistan, the latest of a number of CIS countries which Masdar has signed agreements with.

Energy & Utilities reported in May that Masdar had been selected as the winning bidder to develop 220MW Jizzakh PV independent power producer (IPP) project and the 220MW Samarkand PV IPP project.

Masdar has also been awarded a contract to develop a 457MW PV IPP in the Sherabad district of Uzbekistan. Masdar submitted the lowest bid for the Sherbad project in May 2021.

Uzbekistan awarded the contract to develop the country’s first solar IPP project to a consortium led by Masdar in November 2019.
