India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded a contract to design and build a 132/11kV electrical substation in Dubai.

L&T will also provide the associated cabling and infrastructure works.

L&T also announced it had been awarded a contract to develop 1 220kV transmission line in the Ladakh region of India and two transmission line packages in Africa.

The firm has also been awarded a contract to supply and build a new gas insulated substation and associated works in Thailand.

The Dubai substation contract is part of the emirate’s push to expand its transmission and distribution infrastructure to keep up with the increasing demand and installation of new generation capacity across the emirate.

In May, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) announced that it had commissioned six new transmission substations in the first four months of 2021, with the utility investing more than AED1.1bn ($300m) in the projects.

The substations included a 400 kilovolt (kV) substation at Mohammed bin Rashid (MBR) solar park, which has a conversion capacity of 2,020 megavolt-amperes (MVA) and five 132kV substations across several areas in Dubai with a conversion capacity of 750MVA.
