ALEC Energy has been awarded a contract to install photovoltaic (PV) solar for Dubai Electricity & Water Authority’s (Dewa’s) new headquarters in the Al-Jaddaf area of Dubai.
ALEC Energy will install PV panels to cover a total area of 21,150 square metres on the roof of the new headquarters. The contractor will also install PV panels on the façade covering a total area of 21,150 square metres.
The PV installation will generate a total of 4.8MW of clean electricity for the building when completed, playing a key part in helping the building to meet its net-zero target.
ALEC Energy is working closely with Ghantoot Transport & General Contracting, which was appointed as the main EPC contractor for the project in 2019, and Atkins, the lead consultant for the project to ensure that the solar panels fit into the design of the new headquarters.
“By building Al-Shera’a, Dewa’s new headquarters, which will be the tallest, largest, and smartest government Zero Energy building in the world, we establish a global benchmark for buildings that achieve a balance between development and the environment, to protect the right of future generations to live in a clean, healthy and safe environment,” said Saeed Mohammed al-Tayer, MD and CEO of Dewa, in a press release.
