Dubai-based Alcazar Energy has commissioned the 45MW Shobak wind farm in Jordan.

Alcazar, with partner Hecate Energy, announced that the Shobak wind project in the Ma’an area of Jordan has been fully commissioned and is now commercially operational.

The wind farm will provide enough electricity to power 30,000 households every year.

Jordan has set a target for renewable energy to contribute 20 per cent of its total energy mix by 2025.

The Alcazar consortium appointed Denmark’s Vestas to build the Shobak wind farm, which included the installation of 13 wind turbines across a total area of 14.5 square kilometres. Vestas will provide operation and maintenance (O&M) services for the wind farm.

The wind farm has been financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) and the Europe Arab Bank.

“The completion of the Shobak wind farm, while navigating the challenges of COVID-19, is a real testament to Alcazar Energy’s resolve, expertise and unwavering commitment to all our public and private partners. The achievement of commercial operations demonstrates our credentials as a responsible market leader that operates with the highest levels of safety, discipline, compliance and integrity in our work,” Daniel Calderon, co-founder and CEO of Alcazar Energy, said in the announcement of the commissioning of the project.
