Acwa Power forms new maintenance services company

Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power has formed a new energy maintenance services company to provide maintenance services for power generation and water desalination plants.

The new company, Nomac Maintenance Energy Services (NMES), expands the remit of Acwa Power’s existing subsidiary First National Operation & Maintenance Company (Nomac).

Acwa Power has a portfolio of 58 power and water assets that can produce more than 31GW of electricity and 5.3 million imperial gallons a day (MIGD) of desalinated water. The 58 assets are spread over 12 countries, with 39 per cent of its current portfolio in its local market of Saudi Arabia.

In November, the developer, in consortium with Kuwait’s Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC), was selected as the preferred bidder to build and operate the 900MW fifth phase of the Mohamed bin Rashid (MBR) solar park in Dubai.

The Acwa Power consortium submitted a tariff price of $1.695 cents a kilowatt hour ($c/kWh), setting a new world record low tariff for unsubsidised PV solar production.
